Eco house, or how to design an apartment ecologically?

Utworzono: 27-04-2023

The term 'eco home' is increasingly searched for, which certainly means a strengthening of interest in ecological solutions also in the design industry. What solutions for the home are proposed by specialists in the field of interior design? Read about the most fashionable ECO trends in interiors!

Ecological house and ecological style.

According to the Ministry of the Environment, an ecological house can be called a building that is built using ecological methods with the use of appropriate materials that reduce the building's operating expenses by 50-80% compared to traditional ones. Therefore, it is worth considering ecological solutions already at the stage of building a house. The construction of an ecological house goes hand in hand with renewable energy sources, energy-saving solutions, and products from proven sources. However, we are interested in the eco-design of interiors. What is eco style and is it popular nowadays?

Eco style is becoming more and more popular. This is due to the great awareness of people and how important our planet and what surrounds us are. Customers lead a healthy lifestyle, pay attention to what they eat, do sports, and take care of their mental health. No wonder a "healthy" eco-style interior is extremely consistent with this.

Ecology is a fairly broad term, the importance of which is growing year by year. We are at a time when consumerism has exceeded the safe ceiling and the amount of goods introduced to the market is dangerous for the environment due to the creation of excess waste. The awareness of the term Eco is growing in society. Most often we think about segregating waste by raw materials and turning off the tap. However, there are many more possibilities and one of them is interior design in the eco-trend.

The ecological style is fully defined by one concept - sustainable design. It is a process that aims to create a healthy, ecological environment in which natural resources are consciously used and the energy efficiency of the project is optimized.

As a result, we reduce pollution, extend the "life" of the project, and we also have the ability to reuse materials. This is extremely important as sustainable design improves our quality of life while protecting the environment. We protect both ourselves and the planet.

Golden rules for an ECO home. Eco-friendly materials.

The houses of the future are built in harmony with nature. It means that natural materials and raw materials that are available in a given region were used during construction. What aspects should you pay attention to when choosing materials for an eco-house?

Eco-friendly materials are natural and recycled materials. Wood, stone, textiles, glass, rattan. Materials that are not only timeless but also often age with us. And most importantly, they have a very good effect on us, because they do not contain toxic substances. We can often renew them without exploiting natural resources.

The ideal solution is to use ecological Niemann furniture boards. First of all, they are made of recycled materials, and they look natural. Such a natural appearance is inextricably linked with the eco style. Often "imperfection" is the greatest asset here. Oiled wood, can be brushed or hammered, and fabrics with a structure of linen, cotton, or boulder. Everything that least resembles the ideal effect of machine production. Hand-made accessories will look impressive - clay vases or pots, ceramics, macrame. Thinking about eco interiors, we also think of colors inspired by nature, i.e. earth colors: greys, beiges, browns, warm whites, greens, and brick-red shades. Muted colors, dirty. Ecological interiors are also full of plants. Natural greenery undoubtedly brings us closer to nature.

An important aspect is designing with the protection of natural resources in mind and the conscious use of their limited resources. So let's pay attention to the sources of products used in interiors. The second important principle is the natural composition of the materials used. It prevents pollution of the air and the environment and allows finding solutions that promote the health, well-being, and quality of life of space users.

At Moosh Design Studio, we try to educate clients about the quality and origin of raw materials in interiors. All kinds of wood, wooden or stone veneers are ideal materials that please the eye for a long time and do not have a negative impact on the environment. Energy-saving appliances and recycled products, such as Niemann Saviola boards, are the best available products that support ecology. Ecology likes good quality and well-thought-out solutions that allow for a closed cycle in the environment.

In the case of colors, the first eco-association is the colors of the earth, but does it determine the eco-interior? Not necessarily. Eco colors certainly have a positive effect on our well-being, while in order for the interior to bear the mark of eco-friendliness, we must focus on the origin of paints, the quality of finishing materials, and their impact on the environment. Remember about plants in the interior, they beautifully decorate the space and have a positive effect on our health.

How much does it cost, or can I afford an eco house?

The choice of eco solutions gives many benefits not only to nature but also to investors in the long run, bringing a lot of savings. Some ecological solutions cost quite a lot, such as a photovoltaic installation or a heat pump. Others can be eco patents for pennies. What cheap solutions do you share with your clients?

It is worth installing battery-operated aerators throughout the house, including the rain shower. Thanks to them, we save a lot of water. In order not to buy water in plastic bottles, install a water filter next to the kitchen faucet. Let's use a composter in the garden, solar panels, or recuperation. Small steps that do not require large investments, and if they add up to 8 billion people, we will get a great effect on the planet.

Each redevelopment generates waste and costs. A good design anticipates the changes that occur in the lives of space users. The flexibly designed interior allows for rearrangement, minimizing the need for redevelopment. The ecological design should also assume the optimization of the energy efficiency of the devices used in the interior. The less energy we use, the more we protect the environment and pay less for bills.

I recommend focusing on the topic of second-hand and recycled products. Include in the design chairs or an armchair from your grandparents, ceramics, and glass. Find out if anyone wants to throw away things that would find a second home at your place (there are groups on Facebook dealing with this topic). Don't throw away repairable products, give them to someone who will put them to good use. And if you bought a flat from the secondary market, think about whether everything needs to be changed ? Certainly not wooden parquet ;).

Ecological solutions for everyone

Let's summarize the most important information about ecological solutions obtained from experienced designers.

  • The necessity of ecological choices for the home is constantly growing in the awareness of customers.
  • Ecological materials are not only natural, and non-toxic to the environment, but also those obtained from recycling. Eco-materials are durable for years.
  • Ecological solutions do not have to be expensive, and in the long run, they bring a lot of savings.
